OK, so my new laptop is on its way since Im saving the assloads of cash from not smoking. It was a great deal if anyone is looking for one, Dell is having a nice clearance sale before Windows 8 hits :) I got an third gen i5, 8gb ram, 1tb hard drive for $550

Anyways, Im not asking for flat out directions as that is a lazy way to do anything..Im going to be doing a lot of reading and such to start assisting and deving here so Im looking for some of your guys opinions on items.

It comes with Windows 7...I know android is all Linux based, so any real achievements will need to be done in a Linux environment. With that being said, I havent used Linux in about 15 years since the early days of Redhat..

It seems that Ubuntu has taken over and the newest version is 12.10, but some are sticking with 12.04 since its the latest stable package...I read "reviews" of both and while their all good, they are not doing any development with it. Is there any reason I couldnt use the newest one? Should I stay with 12.04?

Is that like GB and ICS??

Like I said, Im not looking to be spoonfed directions as "how do I"...thats just not me...my problem...Im windows certified (says it all huh) my only advantage is I also have a degree in programming with c++/java but I havent used it in 10 years either

Suggestions guys :geek:

So, what do you use?

It seems conflicting, half of what I've read say Windows does not correctly know how to recognize Linux file structures, so it can break your ROM.
